Timberwolves coach Chris Finch signs four-year contract extension

Timberwolves coach Chris Finch signs four-year contract extension

The Timber Wolves may be in the middle of an ownership dispute, but they are giving the head coach Chris Finch a certain degree of job security, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Finch has agreed to a four-year contract extension through the 2027/28 season. The team confirmed in a press release that Finch has signed the extension.

Minnesota has qualified for the postseason each of the last three seasons under Finch and had its most successful playoff run in two decades by reaching the Western Conference finals this spring.

“I am proud of how we have established a great culture here at the Timberwolves, and I look forward to continuing to lead this organization and make our fans proud,” Finch said in a statement.

Terms were not disclosed, but given the recent explosion in coaching salaries, it is safe to assume that Finch received a hefty raise.

“Chris is a wonderful coach and an even better person,” Team President Tim Connelly said in a statement“We are very pleased that he has been rewarded with a well-deserved contract extension. Under his leadership, the team has improved every year and he is the perfect leader for our organization.”

Finch was poached by the Raptors in February 2021 after the Timberwolves Ryan Saunders in February 2021. He has a 160-127 regular season record with the Timberwolves. Last season, they went 56-26, then swept the Suns and knocked off the defending champion Nuggets in a seven-game battle before falling to the Mavericks.

Finch underwent surgery during the postseason to repair a torn patellar tendon in his right knee after Michael Conley collided with him.
