The voice of Baceprot rocks the Glastonbury stage for the first time

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The Indonesian metal group Voice of Baceprot or VoB, will be the first Indonesian group to rock the stage at the 2024 Glastonbury Festival at the Woodsies Stage in the UK.

The group debuted in 2014 and consists of Firda Marsya Kurnia on guitar and vocals, Widi Rahmawati on bass and Euis Siti Aisyah or Siti on drums. VoB plans to incorporate elements of Indonesian culture, including combining Sundanese instruments into the music they will play on June 28.

“It is an honour to be the first Indonesian musician to perform at the Glastonbury Festival (Woodsies Stage) after 54 years, coinciding with the celebrations of the 75th anniversary of Indonesia’s diplomatic relations with the United Kingdom,” Voice of Baceprot wrote on Instagram on Tuesday, April 30, 2024.

The Glastonbury Festival 2024 will take place at Worthy Farm in Pilton-Somerset, UK. This festival is one of the biggest in the world and has global stars such as Avril Lavigne, Dua Lipa and Coldplay as headliners. Voice of Baceprot will be on the same stage as Gossip and Jamie xx.

Voice of Baceprot’s Triumphs:

– Internationally known

At the end of 2023, VoB successfully completed its 11-city US tour titled “Retas American Tour 2023”, which began in Los Angeles on August 3 and ended in San Diego, California on the 19th of the same month. The group also toured Europe in 2022 with their Supermusic Fight Dream Believe European Tour 2022.

As part of their collaboration with Timo Maas, Voice of Baceprot also teamed up with German DJ Andre Winter for the song “School’s Out Re-Bang”.

VoB’s American tour in late 2023 received an exemplary review in the Washington Post and their musical journey was reviewed by the New York Times, prompting Flea, bassist of Red Hot Chili Paper, the metal group consisting of three young Indonesian women, to pay tribute.

“I am so excited about Voice of Baceprot,” he wrote on X on August 14, 2020.

In addition to Flea, Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello also expressed his admiration for the group in an online interview. “I was just blown away. What an incredible, incredible band,” Tom said on November 12, 2021 on the official Voice of Baceprot YouTube channel.

– On the cover of NME

VoB was selected as the cover of music and pop culture magazine NME during their first tour of the USA.

“In nine years, the NME 100 graduates have gone from teenagers playing covers in their rural hometown of Singajaya to some of the country’s best-known metal musicians,” NME wrote in its 2023 article.

NME is a popular music magazine in the UK and has been around since 1952. NME itself is an acronym for New Musical Express, an international magazine that discusses great musicians.
