“Marrero-to-Michigan” has become a theme in football recruiting lately.

The Michigan Wolverines signed a four-star running back from the New Orleans metropolitan area for the 2025 class last week when Archbishop Shaw’s Jasper Parker committed to the Wolverines. His teammate on the Shaw Eagles, wide receiver Jacob Washington, has now also joined the National Champions for the 2025 recruiting cycle.

Washington considered offers from Boston College, Georgia Tech, Missouri, Houston, Ole Miss, UCF, Mississippi State, Louisiana Tech, Arkansas, Duke, Colorado State, Baylor, Missouri and Miami. His final two were Michigan and Missouri.

The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Washington is the first receiver to commit to Big Blue for the 2025 class. Washington is the third-best wide receiver for 2025 in Louisiana and the 11th-best prospect overall. He is considered the 45th-best wide receiver in the country.

Washington just finished a visit to Michigan’s campus this past weekend, where he received royal treatment from Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore and wide receivers coach Ronald Bellamy, a former student of Archbishop Shaw who is in charge of player recruitment in the bullpen.

Washington has outstanding length, running the 40-yard dash in 4.45 seconds and showing great distance on route running. He is a long runner with an excellent catch radius, which helps him catch the 50/50 balls.

Bellamy, who was an all-state player at Shaw in 1998, is part of a line of previous talents who have made their way from the Big Easy to Ann Arbor. Brother Martin’s Warde Manuel and Barry Krauss, St. Augustine’s LeRoy Hoard and Bobby Powers and John Curtis’ Chris Howard had previously brought their talents to the Michigan campus.

The last junior player from the New Orleans metropolitan area to come to Michigan was Carvin Johnson of Archbishop Rummel in 2010.
