Chicagoan Taylor Casey disappears during a yoga retreat in the Bahamas

A Chicago woman has been missing since last week after she disappeared during a yoga retreat in the Bahamas, authorities said.

Taylor Casey, 41, was last seen Wednesday near Paradise Island, which is near the crime-ridden city of Nassau, according to a missing person report filed by the Royal Bahamas Police Force.

Casey traveled to the Caribbean nation for a yoga certification retreat but missed class on Wednesday.

The yoga retreat center notified her family the next day, according to a social media post from a friend shared on a Facebook page dedicated to finding Casey.

“Taylor is such a kind person who cares so much about the community,” the friend wrote.

According to the Facebook group, Casey’s family is expected to travel to the Bahamas this week to help with the search.

The disappearance of the American tourist came after the U.S. State Department warned travelers earlier this year to exercise increased caution in the Bahamas, including Nassau, due to crime.

According to officials, Casey was last seen on Paradise Island on June 19. Facebook/Find Taylor Casey

“Violent crimes such as burglaries, armed robberies and sexual assaults occur in both tourist and non-tourist areas,” the Foreign Ministry said.

Further information on Casey’s case was not immediately available.
