Justin Timberlake is ‘hard to love’ because he refuses to apologize

Justin Timberlake’s “Forget Tomorrow World Tour” should be renamed “Forget Yesterday When I Got a DWI Tour”.

It has been almost a week since the singer was arrested.

And not a peep from him about supposedly getting ossified at a celebrity hangout in the Hamptons, missing a stop sign, and being taken downtown by a baby-faced cop who had no idea he was arresting the very man responsible for bringing back sexiness.

Instead, the former boy band player took the stage in Chicago on Friday and turned his recent headlines into a narcissistic and manipulative show of solidarity.

“It’s been a rough week,” Timberlake told the crowd at the United Center. “I know sometimes it’s hard to love me, but you guys keep loving me.”

Oh, poor me, I’m flawed. I’m complicated. I’m not easy, but I’m worth it. We’re worth it, family.

Cry me a river, sir.

It may be difficult to love him because he doesn’t want to admit that he made a mistake – a huge one.

Timberlake is literally standing on stage holding the mic. How about a little contrition or a PSA: “Don’t do what I did.” Or hand out gift cards for Uber or Lyft with each ticket.

In an age of ubiquitous ride-sharing services that were supposed to eradicate drunk driving, Timberlake comes across as a completely reckless, selfish fool.

Considering his extremely high personal net worth of $250 million, which means he could have a driver on standby, this is the biggest unforced error since he showed up at the 2001 American Music Awards in questionable denim.

Be a drunk if you want. Get drunk. Get so drunk that you steal drinks from random patrons at the bar, like the singer reportedly did. But after you pay the bill, call a car.

Timberlake was reportedly even warned not to drive by the police officer who arrested him. But hubris and a sense of entitlement can be a far more potent mix than martinis. He drove his $100,000 BMW anyway.

Timberlake is one damn lucky guy because all he got was a glam mug shot from the Sag Harbor Police Department. The glassy-eyed singer could have killed someone walking or biking late at night. He could have mauled another driver on the road.

His drunken recklessness could have resulted in a tragedy so unnecessary that instead of playing in stadiums, he could have been taking a court-ordered tour of our state’s finest correctional facility.

The young policeman deserves a big thank you.

This all comes at pretty bad timing for Timberlake, who has been through some rough times over the past two years. Sales of his new album, Everything I Thought It Was, and concert tickets are sluggish, and there’s also the bad magic of Britney Spears’ memoir, The Woman in Me, in which she reveals that Justin cheated on her and talked her into having an abortion when she was 19.

“Justin was definitely not happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready for a baby, we were way too young,” she wrote. “If it were up to me, I would never have done it. And yet Justin was so sure he didn’t want to be a father.”

She called it “one of the most agonizing things I’ve ever experienced in my life.” And many fans turned on Timberlake, who was busy dodging questions about his ex-girlfriend.

“His golden boy image is definitely ruined,” a Hollywood source told Page Six after the arrest.

However, he has not been a boy for the past two decades. He is a 43-year-old man, married with two children.

He seems to believe he is frozen in the amber of 2006: a triple threat who was once so invincible that he ripped off Janet Jackson’s top and exposed her breasts during the 2004 Super Bowl – and she was the recipient of the cancellation.

But Timberlake is as defiant as he is talented. Back in February, Spears uploaded a clip of him on “The Tonight Show” and said she wanted to “apologize for some of the things I wrote about in my book.” She then complimented him on his song “Selfish.”

Timberlake then quoted Conor McGregor and said he didn’t want to apologize to “absolutely anyone.”

I don’t blame him for his failed relationship with Spears. They were young, rich kids stumbling into adulthood under the eyes of the paparazzi.

But drunk driving is a serious matter. I’m tired of reading endless news stories about innocent people being killed by drunk drivers.

It’s time to grow up, JT. And call an Uber like the rest of us morons.
