Richard Osman’s The Thursday Murder Club on Netflix: Cast confirmed and what we know so far

Netflix and Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment are producing a film adaptation of Richard Osman’s novel The Thursday Murder Club. Filming is scheduled to begin this summer.

The Thursday Murder Club is an upcoming Netflix original crime comedy written and directed by Chris Columbus, who adapted the story from Richard Osman’s novel. The studio behind the film is Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment. However, Spielberg himself is not listed as one of the executive producers. Instead, the executive producers are Holly Bario (Ghost in the Shell)Jeb Brody (Source code)Eleanor Columbus (Harry Potter)and Richard Osman. Jennifer Todd (Memory) is also listed as a producer.

Richard Osman, author of The Thursday Murder Clubshared his enthusiasm about the adaptation.

What is the plot of The Thursday Murder Club?

Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron, all almost eighty, live in a quiet retirement home. The four friends like to meet on Thursdays and investigate unsolved murder cases for fun. But when a brutal murder occurs on their doorstep, the four pensioners become involved in a real case.

Who are the actors of The Thursday Murder Club?

Helen Mirren plays the role of Elizabeth. This will be the first Netflix film with The Queen Actress who previously lent her voice to an adult animated comedy human Resource as Rita St. Swithens. She is known for her role as Queen Elizabeth II in The Queenfor which she received an Oscar, and for her role as DCI Jane Tennison in Main suspectfor which she received four Primetime Emmy Awards.

Pierce Brosnan plays the role of Ron. The Irish actor is best known as the fifth James Bond and played in four Bond films between 1995 and 2002. Most recently, he starred in the Netflix comedy The Out-Laws and in 2020 in the Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of the Fire Saga.

Ben Kingsley plays Ibrahim. He won the Oscar for Best Actor for his role as Mahatma Gandhi and was nominated three more times. MCU fans know Kingsley from his role as Trevor Slattery, aka the False Mandarin in Iron Man 3. He recently appeared in the Netflix short film directed by Wes Anderson The wonderful story of Henry Sugar.

On 21 May 2024, it was announced that Celia Imrie had joined the cast of The Thursday Murder Club.

On June 18, Netflix confirmed that David Tennant, Jonathan Pryce, Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays and Henry Lloyd-Hughes have joined the cast.

What is the production status of The Thursday Murder Club?

Filming will begin at the end of June 2024, last several weeks and end in mid-September 2024.

Filming takes place in Great Britain.
