The famous New York diner Katz’s opens for one day only in LA

Los Angeles residents will soon be able to sample one of New York City’s most famous dishes when Katz’s Delicatessen, perhaps the most famous delicatessen on the entire East Coast, opens in LA for one day only this Saturday, June 29, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Brought to this side of the country by Bar Next Door at 9159 Sunset Boulevard, where the activation is being set up, and Postmates, the pop-up will serve a limited number of Katz’s famous pastrami sandwiches on rye bread with the legendary house-made mustard and pickles on the side.

A word of warning: This culinary delight costs $25 for half a sandwich and $45 for a whole one. Trust us: The food is worth the price.

Guests can also view limited edition merchandise from the brand.

Fans of Bar Next Door will be happy to hear that the venue will continue to serve its full cocktail menu during the event, in addition to a special Coors Banquet cocktail made with a lager and a “Dirty Mixed Brine Martini Shot,” complete with vodka, pickled olives and hot pepper brine. This combination costs $16.

While pop-ups don’t always deliver on their promises when it comes to food and drink offerings, we have to admit we’re pretty excited about this one. After all, Katz’s has become the epitome of the country’s diner culture and has been featured in countless films, including, we dare say, one of the most famous scenes in Hollywood history with Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal in When Harry met Sally.

Pro tip: If you ever visit the restaurant in New York, try to get the famous table. It is labeled in the middle of the restaurant.
