Famous Pirates of the Caribbean actor and surfer killed in shark attack

OAHU, Hawaii – Hawaiian surfing legend and actor Tamayo Perry died in a shark attack on Sunday.

The 49-year-old was killed on the north shore of the island of Oahu, where he had worked for the Ocean Safety and Lifeguard Service for eight years. He was surfing during his break when he was attacked.

Perry is known for numerous roles in films such as “Blue Crush” and the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series.

Honolulu Ocean Safety and city police officers responded to Mālaekahana Beach on Oahu after a caller reported seeing a man bitten by a shark. Lifeguards brought Perry to shore on a jet ski and he was pronounced dead, police said.

The Hawaii Government Employees Association sent its condolences to Perry’s family in a statement on Facebook.

“The HGEA Ohana union is saddened by the tragic death of one of our members, Tamayo Perry, a water safety officer for the City and County of Honolulu,” the statement said. “His death is a stark reminder of the risks our members face every day to protect our community. We stand ready to assist in any way we can during this difficult time.”
