Country singer and songwriter from Texarkana makes a career in Nashville

Country music fans, I’m here to tell you about new Texas singer-songwriter Nathan Belt, who hails from Texarkana.

Nathan Belt

Belt has been belting out the songs (no pun intended) since the early 2000s after coming to Nashville, Tennessee. Like many new artists, it takes a while for him to get noticed in Music City, but his love of the traditional, classic country sound has earned him a loyal fan base in a genre where the traditional country sound is lacking. A fan-favorite band, Nathan Belt and the Buckles has performed at venues across Nashville and has hosted and headlined the world-famous General Jackson Showboat, one of Nashville’s top attractions.

A brand new self-written solo EP is due out this year and he has just released a new single, “A clean life is killing me” which he wrote and produced together with his long-time friend, the songwriter, Bryan Simpson.

About the song

The song came about when he offered me a cup of coffee while we were writing together. I informed him that I don’t drink coffee and that led to a long conversation about “What else don’t you do?”

“It is rare these days that I choose to drink alcohol after I nearly died from diverticulitis in 2018 and needed major emergency surgery.”

Since then, I haven’t been able to handle much whiskey or beer, although I still enjoy a drink now and then. With our past full of heartbreak, we had ammunition for a country song that even George Jones would be proud of.

Nathan Belt’s hometown

Nathan was born in Texarkana. He has a sister, Angie, who still lives here, and several cousins, aunts and uncles who still call Texarkana home. He began performing many years ago at the 1994 Ashdwon Jamboree when he was very young. He has been performing on the Broadway and Music Valley honky-tonk circuit since 2014.

“It’s been a long road to get to this point, but it’s been worth it,” Belt said. “This independent country artist is making his own way surrounded by some great people in the music business and with the love and support of his family and friends.”
