Eloy Jimenez in the squad for the White Sox’s series opener against the Dodgers

The White Sox brought designated hitter Eloy Jimenez back from his rehab assignment in the Arizona Complex League on Sunday and activated him off the 10-day injured list. Jimenez batted 1 for 4 and scored a run in an 11-2 loss to the Tigers, but navigated a stop-and-go circuit around the bases while in pain.

Jimenez was on the injured list for four weeks with a strained left hamstring. In the seventh inning, he appeared uncomfortable running to first base after a ball landed down the third-base line and bounced off the side wall. He had no intention of reaching two bases. He moved cautiously from first to third when Gavin Sheets hit a double and again when he scored on Nicky Lopez’s single.

After the game, Jimenez said he felt soreness during the game and reiterated that he felt fine in the days leading up to Sunday in Arizona. Manager Pedro Grifol said Saturday that Jimenez was running at 90 percent in Arizona, and before Sunday’s game, he said Jimenez was “ready to go.”

“I don’t think he would be here otherwise. He’s doing pretty well,” Grifol said.

“He’s ready to go.”

Jimenez will apparently try to overcome the pain and return to the lineup on Monday when the Sox open a three-game series at home against the Dodgers, a source revealed Monday.

On Sunday, Grifol gestured toward Jimenez from the team bench, pointing to his own thigh as if to check on him. Jimenez said he was fine.

“I saw him run for the first time and he ran OK,” Grifol said after the game. “He ran better last time. I’ll talk to our coaches before we leave.”

Before the game, Jimenez, who has a long history of injuries, said he couldn’t wait to play.

“I’m feeling better,” he said. “I can’t give a percentage (on the leg) right now, but it feels solid.”

Jimenez has unfortunately had to answer questions about his health throughout his career. He takes them in stride, but the setbacks have been extremely frustrating.

“Yes, that’s already in the past,” he said of his injuries. “Now we’re here and we’re just going to carry on.”

James Paxton of the Dodgers will face Garrett Crochet of the Sox in a duel of left-handers on Monday (7:10 p.m.). Crochet has a record of 5-2 with a 1.68 ERA in his last 10 starts.
