Creepy wedding video shows Chris Watts ‘staring blankly’ at his wife, whom he would later slaughter in a gruesome triple murder

Gruesome wedding footage shows killer Chris Watts staring “staring” at his wife Shannann, whom he would later strangle along with their two daughters, as they exchanged wedding vows years before the gruesome massacre.

In 2020, around 47,000 women and girls worldwide were killed by their partners or other family members, according to the latest available UN data. The warning signs are often hard to spot until it’s too late.

In the case of Chris and Shannann Watts, neighbors and friends were initially shocked to learn that the “family man” had strangled his pregnant wife and two young daughters before dumping their bodies in crude oil drums and abandoning them in the desert. Body language expert Judi James analyzed the wedding footage for signs of anger and found Chris’ behavior alarming.

“We all like to think that we can tell the good from the bad. If we are a good judge of character from the first encounter, we feel safer and less susceptible to being deceived or hurt in any way.

“Unfortunately, however, it is all too easy to misinterpret the signals we receive and draw an incorrect diagnosis or assumption. When we make snap judgments based on the attribution effect or first impressions, we often fall victim to the attribution error, where we look for signs that confirm we were right,” James added, reports the Mirror US.

“However, misinterpretation and misinterpretation are common. How often do we hear neighbors describe someone who has committed a gruesome, brutal murder as ‘very quiet and polite, a nice person,’ basing their assumption of a ‘good’ personality on the fact that they said ‘good morning’ to them on the street?

“Signs of guilt or lying are rarely as obvious as we would like to believe, and if a murderer has a certain psychiatric profile, he may not actually feel guilt and may therefore look and act guiltless.

“If Chris Watts’ wedding videos suggest anything, it’s an introverted personality. His involvement signals are low here, while those of his wife Shannan are high. She seems at ease as she actively shows her love for Chris and her joy on their wedding day. She wraps her arms around his neck and looks at him with admiration. When they pose for photos together, her hand on her hip is a spread-eagle gesture that signals confidence and happiness.

“Chris, however, seems less comfortable in his own skin. As they stand together, his arms hang at his sides and his expression appears politely blank. While they dance, he does look Shannan in the eye, but otherwise seems uncomfortable making eye contact with the camera or his wife. She shows all the signs of having fun on her wedding day, but he seems less able to join in.”

“The last photo is particularly striking, with Shannan dancing, bending over and smiling at the camera, but he stands there watching her, staring at her with a serious expression and his hands clenched into fists.

  • “However, the introverted behavior could easily pass for shyness. He is referred to as the ‘good guy’ in her life and his quieter nature could have been confused with trustworthiness and reliability. People use the expression ‘opposites attract’ and one might have felt that his introversion allowed her to be outgoing, happy and free. Love can make even the worst qualities seem like admirable traits because we want to feel like we love the right person,” concludes James.

We don’t know what her personal life was like, but Watts previously claimed that a spontaneous fit of rage led him to murder his pregnant wife and two daughters so he could be with his lover and co-worker, Nichol Kessinger.

In a harrowing letter to true crime author Cheryln Cadle, crazed killer Watts detailed how he attempted to kill his two young daughters, four-year-old Bella and three-year-old Celeste (Cece), before strangling his pregnant wife Shanann in their Frederick, Colorado, home.

Shockingly, his first attempt to suffocate his children failed, leaving them injured and traumatized. The oilfield worker did not confess to this first murder attempt during his numerous interrogations with police and FBI agents following the horrific events in August 2018.

Watts is currently serving five life sentences without the possibility of parole, three of them consecutive. He pleaded guilty to several counts of first-degree murder as part of a deal to avoid the death penalty – a penalty that was abolished in Colorado in 2020.
