Want to fly in a WWII B-29 bomber? A Michigan airport offers fighter plane tours.

TITTABWASSEE TOWNSHIP, MI — Spectators on the ground will witness a retro Ascension Day spectacle next week when a Dallas-based flying “museum” brings World War II-era military aircraft into the skies over central Michigan.

The Commemorative Air Force AirPower History Tour will take place Wednesday through Sunday, June 26-30, at MBS International Airport and in the skies above.

Organizers said the five-day event will offer both ground tours and flights on a range of fighter aircraft, including a Boeing B-29 “Superfortress,” a four-engine high-altitude bomber used by the U.S. in both World War II and the Korean War.

Other fighter aircraft expected at the Tittabawassee Township airport this week include the P-51 Mustang, the T-6 Texan, the PT-13 Stearman and the RC-45J Expeditor.

The B-29, nicknamed “Fifi,” will take off at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, June 29 and 30, organizers said. Flights on the other aircraft will be available during the tour’s normal hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Participants can book their seats for the flights online in advance.

A flight with “FiFi” costs between $725 and $1,375, while a seat in the P-41 Mustang costs between $2,500 and $4,000.

Flights on the other aircraft cost between $150 and $750.

Ground-level access to the fleet – including tours of the cockpits – costs $20 for adults, $10 for children ages 11 to 17, and is free for children under 10.

The fighter jets will land in the Avflight hangar at MBS International Airport.

The Dallas-based Commemorative Air Force will visit locations across the Midwest during the summer months, with stops in Ohio, Indiana and Wisconsin, among others, in July.
