The Bookseller – Rights – DK snaps up Adam Frost’s book about the joys of plants

DK Living has acquired the new book by Adam Frost For the love of plants: celebrate the joy of plants every dayThe release is planned for spring 2025.

Editorial director Ruth O’Rourke acquired world rights from Theia Nankivell at KBJ Management. The publisher says the award-winning gardener, RHS ambassador and television presenter’s new book “invites readers to explore his new garden through his own words, memories and experiences”.

The book – also a nod to Frost’s personal story and how plants and time in his garden helped him overcome the difficult moments in his life – is divided into sections corresponding to each garden area.

Frost begins with a vegetable garden at the front of the house. Readers are then led through the shady tree fern-filled passageway to the north-facing bed behind the house, on to the sunny main terrace and lawns, the dry gravel garden and finally the woodland planting at the back. He shares what he wanted to achieve with each section – both practically and personally, drawing on the memories each section evokes and what feelings the rooms make him feel.

The publisher says: “Adam’s journey is one that many of us can identify with. The things we love can get us through our hardest times, while also being the focus of our happiest times.”

Frost said: “This love of plants seems to have been with me my whole life and I was keen to try and share and celebrate that connection in the book. A few years ago I hit a difficult patch and a big part of getting my life back on track was designing my new garden. For the love of plants is this journey, through the design of the garden and back to myself. It is truly a pleasure to work with the DK team again to share this story.”

O’Rourke added: “We are delighted to be working with Adam on his third book at DK. For the love of plants explores Adam’s extensive knowledge and appreciation for the plants he loves to grow. In the book, he introduces over 200 plants and tells how he uses them, how to care for them and what their significance is.

“This book is a unique account of the joy that plants can bring to us all, beautifully observed through Adam’s brilliant eye for planting.”
