Shaina Twain spoke about her feelings as she escaped the reality of womanhood and embraced her true identity.

In a recent interview with The timesthe 58-year-old Canadian singer-songwriter, talked about her traumatic childhood that led her to write her hit Man, I feel like a woman!

During the conversation, Twain revealed that her stepfather had sexually abused her and also physically tortured her mother.

She told the outlet that she used to hate being a woman. “With this song, I’m saying that I waited too long to feel comfortable being a woman,” she said of her hit.

Twain continued, “For many years I avoided or wished I were not a woman. I was a shy, uncertain woman – not a human being.”

She added: “My mind was telling me, ‘I don’t really care what I am,’ but my body was getting in the way – the feminine was getting in the way. I have curves, so I had to set boundaries and guards very early on. I did everything I could to not draw attention to them.”

But one day her perspective changed and she accepted her imperfections: “But then I got tired of pretending I wasn’t a curvy woman, so I wrote:Man, I feel like a woman!‘”

“I guess I started feeling comfortable in my own skin late, but after a while you just have to stop complaining about the things you can’t change,” said the Do not be stupid said the singer.

For those who don’t know, Twain released her hitMan, I feel like a woman in 1997.
