Charli XCX asks her fans to chant “Please stop” and “Taylor is dead” at her concerts

Tensions between Swift and Charli were fueled primarily by fans who objected to the release of the exclusive digital version of her latest album in the UK. The “Tortured Poets” section the same week that Charli released bratwhich prevented them from topping the charts.

There has also been speculation that Charli’s new song, “Sympathy is a Knife,” contains a reference to Swift. Charli said the song was inspired by a woman bringing up her own insecurities. “I don’t know if it’s real or if I’m going in circles,” she sings in the song. “A voice tells me they’re laughing. George says I’m just paranoid… I don’t wanna see them backstage at my boyfriend’s show. I’m crossing my fingers behind my back. I hope they break up quickly.”

Charli is engaged to George Daniel, the drummer of The 1975, whose lead singer Matty Healy, Swift’s ex-boyfriendCharli has also spoken out about opening for Swift’s 2018 Reputation Tour, stating that because of her experiences on that tour, she no longer wants to open for other artists.

“I’m really grateful that (Taylor) invited me on this tour. But as an artist, it kind of felt like I was going on stage and waving to 5-year-olds,” she said via diversity. “I need to finally own my own shit.”
