T20 WC: “Chris Jordan is a match winner”: England’s Rashid after qualifying for the semi-finals

Bridgetown (Barbados), June 24: After his side’s ten-wicket win against the USA in the final clash of the ICC T20 World Cup Super Eights, England spinner Adil Rashid praised captain Jos Buttler and hat-trick hero Chris Jordan for their performance.

England qualified for the semifinals of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 after defeating the USA by 10 wickets in the Super Eights match at the Kensington Oval on Sunday. Chris Jordan and captain Jos Buttler shone in the game for the Three Lions, helping them secure their place in the semifinals of the premier event.

After the match, Adil said during the debriefing, “We fought pretty well and set the tone with the ball. I was happy to restrict them (USA) to 115. It’s always nice to come here and bowl. It helps when the bowlers keep it tight from the other end too. With the wind, you have to judge which end you bowl from. Sometimes you get hit for fours and sixes. Sometimes you pick wickets. CJ (Chris Jordan) is a match winner, he’s been doing that for a number of years. Congratulations to him. He (Jos Buttler) is a world-class player, a great performer. He has to take that form into the semi-finals.”

With this victory, England have qualified for the semi-finals. They currently sit top of Group 2 of the Super Eights with two wins and one loss. The winner of the West Indies-South Africa clash will join them in the semi-finals.

When it came to play, England won the toss and let the USA bat first. Nitish Kumar (30 in 24 balls, with a four and two sixes), Corey Anderson (29 in 28 balls, with a six) and Harmeet Singh (21 in 17 balls, with two fours and a six) batted decisively, but England thrashed the co-hosts by 115 runs in 18.5 overs.

Jordan took a hat-trick by taking four wickets in his third over.

Jordan (4/10) was the best bowler for England. Adil (2/13) and Sam Curran (2/23) also bowled very well for England.

England reached the target in just 9.4 overs, with captain Buttler (83* in 38 balls, with six fours and seven sixes) and Phil Salt (25* in 21 balls, with two fours) inflicting a crushing defeat on the USA.

Rashid took home the Player of the Match award.
