WATCH: Funnel clouds form in NH as storms knock down trees, spark house fires – Boston News, Weather, Sports

MANCHESTER, NH (WHDH) – Emergency crews rushed to a home in Manchester, New Hampshire on Sunday to extinguish a fire sparked by a lightning strike as a series of severe storms moved through the area.

The homeowners said they were eating dinner when they received the call that their house on Boynton Street had been struck by lightning.

“My tenant called me and said, ‘Hey, your house got struck by lightning,'” Michael Poisson recalled. “I thought he was joking, but his voice was shaking a little bit and I said, ‘Are you serious?’ And he said, ‘Mike, yes, I’m calling 911!'”

Fire officials said they were prepared for the possibility of fires as the storms passed through.

“The guys were on high alert because of the impending storm,” said Kenneth Proulx, battalion chief of the Manchester Fire Department.

The fire was quickly brought under control and there was no significant damage to the house.

Elsewhere, a storm system that triggered multiple tornado warnings tore down trees and limbs in Keene, and a funnel cloud was caught on camera in Dublin, New Hampshire.
