Notre Dame Football secures the love of the best special teams

While Notre Dame Football The team strives for Wide receivers like Tanook Hinesor defensive back Jordan Thomas could make more headlines, Marcus Freeman and Co. know that it is equally important that the team strengthens its special teams with talent.

That’s why it was important that promising punter/kicker Erik Schmidt enjoyed his visit to South Bend. The good news is that the specialist actually seems to have liked what he saw. So much so that he’s planning another trip to see what the Fighting Irish have to offer as he gets closer to a commitment.

Schmidt‍ was in training camp at Notre Dame last week and after another good time in South Bend, it looks like the Wisconsin punter/kicker will be back in 2025.

“I made my punt and then I had a meeting with Coach (Marcus) Freeman, which was good.” Schmidt said Irish sports newspaper“I had a meeting with Chad (Bowden). He talked about taking an official position.”

The Marquette University High standout has visited Notre Dame several times and said he will “probably” return for an official appearance in the fall.

The Irish are not the clear favorite for the punter and kicker. He also brought an official to Wisconsin and is bringing another to Boston College this weekend. However, it’s possible his recruitment could be complete soon.

He has not appointed any other officials other than the Fighting Irish.

In order to get Schmidt, the Notre Dame coaches must first make him an official offer. At the moment, his only concrete offer comes from Missouri. It is assumed that more will come soon, especially from Wisconsin.

The question then is whether the Notre Dame football team believes its special teams needs are great enough to give the Milwaukee native a scholarship.
