Mets win 5-2 in series against Cubs; Díaz is excluded

The New York Mets wanted to finish their series against the Chicago Cubs strong and that’s exactly what they did. New York fought to a 5-2 victory and improved its June record to 13-6, the best record in the major leagues.

The Mets were strong from the start. With a 3-2 count and one out in the first inning, Francisco Lindor hit his 13th home run of the season, a line drive into left center field that Harrison Bader. In the next inning, with a 2-2 count and one out, Brandon Nimmo hit his 11th home run of the season, a fly ball to left center field, increasing the Mets’ lead to 3-0.

Later, with a 2-1 count and one out, Mark Vientos hit his seventh home run, a fly ball to center field, extending the Mets’ lead to 5-2. Vientos’ home run came in at 109.3 mph and flew 451 feet. Elsewhere, Harrison Bader And DJ Stewart contributed two goals.

Luis Severino was fantastic on the mound for New York, throwing 102 pitches and striking out ten. He allowed no runs and held Chicago to just three hits.

Behind Severino, the Mets bullpen allowed two runs. The damage was caused by a Christoph Morel two-run home run Dedniel Nunez. In the ninth inning Drew Smith And Jake Diekman had to do the work as Edwin Diaz was sent off after being checked for sticky substances before throwing the pitch.

With the win, the best team in the majors improved its season record to 37-39 in June. The Mets are 1.0 game behind the last wild card spot. They have completed seven series in a row without a loss.

Mark Vientos‘ Home run was a hit with authority. The ball had an impressive exit velocity of 109.3 mph and traveled a distance of 451 feet with a launch angle of 28 degrees. It is one of the longest home runs by a Mets this season.

Luis Severino delivered a stellar performance for the Mets, holding the Cubs off the scoreboard for six innings, throwing 102 pitches and recording ten strikeouts, one of Severino’s better performances this season.
