Statement from Representative Jaime Greene on the tragic death of Detective Brad Reckling

Republican Rep. Jaime Greene of Richmond issued the following statement Sunday on the death of Detective Brad Reckling, an Oakland County Sheriff’s Office deputy who was shot and killed in the line of duty Saturday night. Reckling was a resident of Greene’s district.

“It is with deep sadness that we mourn the loss of Detective Brad Reckling, who was tragically shot in the line of duty. A dedicated servant to our community, Detective Reckling leaves behind his beloved wife, Jackie, three children (with another on the way), and a legacy of bravery and dedication to public safety.

“As we mourn this senseless loss, we must also recognize the urgent need to support our law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line every day. Sheriff Bouchard has called for increased mutual support among police departments, and it is imperative that we heed that call and make the safety and well-being of our officers and their families our highest priority.

“While it is critical that those responsible for this heinous act receive due process, we must also reaffirm our commitment to punish murderers with the severity their violent crimes deserve. Our officers need our support more than ever, and it is our duty to ensure they have the resources they need to keep our communities safe.

“In this time of grief, let us come together to honor Detective Reckling’s memory by standing firmly behind his family and our police community. We owe it to Brad, Jackie, their children and all of our officers to provide them with the support and protection they need.”
