Chris Jordan praises “special” Jos Buttler after 83 against USA: I’m glad I’m not bowling against him

New Delhi,UPDATED: June 24, 2024, 06:20 IST

Chris Jordan said Jos Buttler’s form was never a concern for the England team. On Monday, June 24, Buttler captained the team against the United States as the Three Lions reached the semi-finals of the 2024 T20 World Cup. Buttler scored an unbeaten 83 runs from 38 balls with 6 fours and 7 sixes as the British reached the target of 116 with 10.2 overs in their innings and won by 10 wickets.

Buttler was tough on left-arm spinner Harmeet Singh, slamming five sixes off the US bowler in the penultimate over of England’s run-chase. Before his storming knock, Buttler had scored just 108 runs in 6 matches at an average of 27, but Jordan said that as their “best player”, there was no doubt that the England captain would deliver a match-winning blow.

“We are lucky to have him”

“Definitely. I wouldn’t call it a relief because I’ve seen him do that so many times. He’s really the leader of the group in every way. He’s our best player, that’s for sure, and when he’s in that mood, we definitely tend to follow him. So yeah, that was just a Jos special today,” Jordan said in the post-game press conference.

“You get to a point where you might even think it’s quite normal, but you have to step back and realise how special he is and how lucky we are to have him on our side. So I’m definitely glad I’m not bowling against him,” Jordan added.

England were in a lot of trouble after losing by 7 runs to Aiden Markram’s South Africa, but the resounding victory over the USA meant they moved to the top of their Super 8 group. Buttler’s men also increased their net run rate to +1.992.
