Union: Workers go on strike after no agreement with Bombardier could be reached by deadline

OTTAWA – More than a thousand aircraft assembly workers at Bombardier began a strike on Sunday after their union failed to reach an agreement with the company.

A Unifor press release on Sunday said 1,350 workers at the company’s aircraft factory at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport walked off work after the strike deadline expired at 11:59 p.m. on Saturday.

The union said negotiations with the employer lasted all night and into the late morning. Collective bargaining is expected to resume early Monday.

“The union’s bargaining committee members are working toward an agreement and both parties remain committed to continuing the negotiation process,” Unifor said.

Bombardier spokesman Mark Masluch said the common goal was to “quickly reach an agreement that is beneficial to both sides.”
