Ferns goalkeeper Vic Esson extends contract with Scottish club

New Zealand international Vic Esson has signed a new contract with Scottish club Rangers and committed to staying until at least summer 2025.

Esson (33) has been Rangers’ first-choice goalkeeper since joining from German club SC Sand in mid-2022 and was part of the team that won the Sky Sports Cup in the last two seasons and the Scottish Cup this year.

Esson told the Rangers website: “I am delighted to sign a new contract. Rangers has been my home for the past few years and I have really enjoyed my two years at the club.”

“It is a very exciting time for the club and I hope we can hit the ground running when it comes to next season.

“It’s a great group of girls with a strong coaching team and I’m really looking forward to another season with the Rangers.”

Head coach Jo Potter said: “Vic has been a hugely influential member of the team during my time at the club and it is pleasing that she has signed a contract extension until next summer.

“She is part of a highly competitive goalkeeping unit at the club that encourages each other every day and I believe her character and temperament will be vital to our ambitions next season.”

Donald Gillies, Managing Director of the Women’s and Girls’ Team, said: “We are delighted that Vic has committed her future to the club ahead of next season.

“Her professionalism and commitment to improving every day is infectious and she played a crucial role in the team winning the cup double last season.

“Vic sets a great example both on and off the pitch and we look forward to seeing her in the Rangers jersey more often.”

The Christchurch-born goalkeeper played for Coastal Spirit and North Shore United in New Zealand and was part of the national team at the 2019 and 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cups.
