Police say Temple University student charged in death of fellow student

A Temple University student has been charged in the death of a fellow Temple University student in what police described as a “domestic incident.”

At 4:04 a.m. Saturday, police responded to a report of a medical emergency in the 1400 block of Willington Street in North Philadelphia, NBC10 reported. Authorities said they found the body of 20-year-old Temple student Milan Jones on the second floor of the home. She had suffered apparent blunt force trauma and was pronounced dead at 4:12 a.m., officials say.

The suspect in connection with Jones’ death was identified as 21-year-old Tymir Lackey, who was arrested by police at the scene, authorities said. Police described the incident as a domestic-related incident.

Lackey is charged with murder, recklessly endangering another person and tampering with evidence, authorities say. Lackey was also a student at Temple University and was “immediately suspended” by the university, according to a statement from the university.

According to the university, Jones was about to begin her third year in the nursing program at the Temple College of Public Health.

“She enjoyed helping and caring for others, and her decision to pursue a career as a nurse reflects just that,” Temple officials said of Jones in the statement. “There is no doubt that she had a very bright future ahead of her, which makes it especially difficult to deliver this news. … Domestic violence is abhorrent in all its forms. If you or someone you know needs help, there are resources available on campus and across the country to support you or those you care about. Your safety and well-being are our top priority.”

According to university officials, members of the Temple community can seek domestic violence support from the Wellness Resource Center ([email protected] or 215-204-8436), the university’s Title IX Coordinator ([email protected] or 215-204-3283), or the National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-SAFE). Temple also offers support to its students through Tuttleman Counseling Services.
