Swifties convinced Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters outshone Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour
Are Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl and Taylor Swift enemies?
The “Smells Like Teen Spirit” singer left Swifties with the impression that he had overshadowed the pop star when he suggested that she not perform live during his own performance in Manchester, England.
The 55-year-old rocker was on stage with his band at the London Stadium on Saturday when he told the audience he “feels like Taylor Swift.”
He explained: “Listen – tonight, this is my Eras tour, OK? I have a lot of eras. Spelling mistakes. This is my Errors tour, how about that? … That’s what we should have called this damn tour: The Errors Tour.”
Later in the concert, Grohl said he was “joking about Taylor Swift’s tour earlier” and told booing fans he didn’t want to “incur their wrath.”
The rock star again called his show the “Error Tour” and referred to “more than a few eras and more than a few damn mistakes too.”
Then he joked: “That’s because we’re playing live.”
Amid cheers from his fans, Grohl asked: “What? I’m just saying. We’re a live band! You like live rock’n’roll, right? Then you’ve come to the right place.”
Several Swifties used X to comment on Grohl’s “disappointing” comments.
“My respect for Dave Grohl is at rock bottom right now! Trying to undermine the most talented and successful artist working today who has played 150 sold out stadium shows and a 3.5 hour LIVE set is incredibly lame! Jealousy doesn’t suit you Dave!” wrote another, referring to Swift’s record-breaking tour.
“Dave Grohl may have messed with the Swifties,” added a second, while others rushed to the musician’s defense, insisting he was “joking.”
“Anyone who knows anything about Dave Grohl knows there is not an ounce of negativity behind those words,” commented one social media user, while another claimed he would “never speak ill of anyone.”
A third added: “I love Dave Grohl @foofighters. I also love @taylorswift13. It was a joke, a bit of banter IMO.”
Page Six has reached out to representatives for Swift and Grohl for comment.
The “Cruel Summer” singer, who kicked off her Eras tour in 2023 and performed at London’s Wembley Stadium all weekend, is best known for her live singing, having interrupted her performances to help fans in need.
In 2015, Grohl called himself a Swiftie, telling listeners of BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend that he was “officially obsessed.”
He dedicated a song to her and joked, “Maybe she should get a restraining order, because I’m a huge fan of T. Swift.”
