Motorists were warned to extend their morning commutes after severe storms downed power lines and trees across West Michigan on Sunday.

According to a map provided by Consumers Energy, just over 30,000 Consumers Energy customers were without power Monday morning.

Severe storms leave 28,000 people without power and cause flooding in West Michigan

Several severe storms moved through West Michigan Sunday night.

The storms brought strong winds and torrential rain, leaving just over 28,000 of the utility’s customers without power as of 2 a.m. Monday morning.

Dangerous heat continues until Saturday

Dangerously hot weather is expected in West Michigan for the rest of the week.

Because of the heat, the National Weather Service issued a heat warning for all of Western Michigan earlier this week.

The Colonial Michilimackinac archaeological team discovered the brass trading ring on Tuesday.

Several campers were rescued after a tree fell on their cabin early Thursday morning.

Oceana Central Dispatch was notified of an emergency at Camp Ao-Wa-Kiya in Shelby, Michigan at approximately 2:30 a.m.

MSP investigates fatal motorcycle-truck crash in Calhoun County

Officers with the Michigan State Police Marshall Post are investigating a fatal crash that occurred Saturday afternoon near Tekonsha Township involving a pickup truck and a motorcycle.

The driver of a Ford truck, a 42-year-old Union City woman, was turning into a driveway off M-60 near 18 1/2 Road around 3:30 p.m. when she was struck from behind by a 67-year-old Jackson man on a motorcycle, troopers said.

KDPS: Flooded streets in Kalamazoo may delay rush hour traffic Monday morning

Monday morning commutes could be longer for motorists after severe storms flooded several streets in Kalamazoo.

This comes as a flood warning remains in effect for part of Kalamazoo County, near Portage Creek, until 9:15 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.
