CFB Recruiting: Michigan signs RB, USC 5-star visits Colorado, UGA projections

When USC’s new defensive line coach Eric Henderson signed five-star Georgia tackles Justus Terry and Isaiah Gibson, Bulldogs fans insisted it wouldn’t last. And they were right. Both defensive players retracted their commitments to the Trojans last week.

While their commitments are open now, they might as well be closed. The overwhelming expectation is that Terry and Gibson will end up exactly where you’d expect: with the Georgia Bulldogs.

Experts at 247Sports and On3 have given their predictions that the five-star duo will join the Bulldogs and stay in the state.

Terry, a 6-foot-5, 275-pound defensive lineman from Manchester, is ranked No. 7 in the 247Sports Composite and No. 2 at his position. He committed to Georgia earlier this year but transferred to USC in March.

The Bulldogs may not have to worry about the Trojans anymore, but Alabama is sniffing around. Terry visited Tuscaloosa this weekend.

Gibson is 6-foot-4 and has 245 points at Warner Robins. He is a four-star player in the 247Sports composite, but 247Sports’ solo rankings rate him as a five-star player and the No. 1 EDGE in the country.

An official visit to Oklahoma was originally planned for this weekend, but Gibson visited Athens instead.

USC’s summer recruiting efforts could worsen if Lincoln Riley loses the commitment of five-star quarterback JuJu Lewis.

Lewis, the No. 9 prospect in the 247Sports Composite, said in June that he was “committed to USC” and was visiting other programs “for the experience.” But that doesn’t mean the Trojans don’t have to worry, as he could turn heads while jetting around the country.

On Sunday, Lewis posted on social media about his weekend visit to Colorado, where Shedeur Sanders literally handed him the keys to the kingdom.

“Could it be ‘perfect timing’?” Lewis wrote.

Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes have made a splash in college football, but that hasn’t translated to recruiting. Colorado ranks 84th in 247Sports’ team rankings with just three newcomers, none of whom are among the top 200 players in the class.

Changing Lewis’ mind would be Sanders’ biggest recruiting attempt since Travis Hunter.

Of course, Georgia will always be a candidate for Lewis since he calls the state home. He also attended Auburn, while Alabama could also take him for an OV.

The Michigan Wolverines were able to secure a four-star running back on Sunday, with Donovan Johnson choosing the Wolverines over a number of other applicants.

Johnson was the first in a weekend of official visitors for Michigan. He thanked running backs coach Tony Alford for bringing him to Ann Arbor, showing that in another universe he might have ended up at Ohio State instead. Alford courted Johnson when he was with the Buckeyes and kept his interest alive when he surprisingly accepted a job with the Wolverines this offseason.

Ohio State fans won’t feel like they’ve lost much, as they’ve already landed the signings of top-100 prospect Bo Jackson and four-star Isaiah West this season, and they’re doing just fine without Alford in their search for players.

Still, Michigan could have the last laugh if Johnson plays to the potential he showed before injuring his ACL and missing his junior year. Despite the injury, Alford is fully committed to Johnson, who was once a top-50 recruiting prospect.
