Adidas wants to start 2025 with a bang and brings back the famous Newcastle United jersey with the collar

Newcastle United fans are excited by rumours that an exact replica of the club’s iconic Adidas kit from the 1995/96 season will be released next year.

Leaks from the football kit scene suggest Adidas will start 2025 with a bang by releasing a range of iconic retro kits for fans of its elite clubs. And Newcastle finds itself on a list of teams such as Real Madrid and Manchester United who could woo fans with reissues of 90s hits.

If Newcastle brought back the famous grandad collar shirt, it would definitely sell out in club shops. Released in 1995, the shirt is still worn by fans today, even though the shirts are almost 30 years old.

CCO Peter Silverstone told Chronicle Live earlier this year: “Everyone will probably be aware of the groundbreaking products and kits that Adidas designed for Newcastle United in the 1990s. Some of those designs will be incorporated into the current kits. I think all I can say is that kits are coming back, which is what we first did with the squashed banana kit when I was at Arsenal.”

“It’s been an incredible success from both a fan perspective and a cultural perspective. Some of these iconic shirts are culturally relevant to all football fans. They are unique fashion items that just happen to have been worn by David Ginola and Alan Shearer, the Entertainers and Ant and Dec!

“They are iconic pieces and we are working with Adidas to bring them back.”
