Value Betting on the Bucs – JoeBucsFan.com

Unless it’s a gift, or maybe $10 or $20 just for fun, fans won’t catch Joe placing any kind of wager on a team’s season win total before the end of August.

Until then, too much can go wrong – or go right.

However, this does not stop the burgeoning sports betting industry from analyzing bets on the season’s results, months before all the data and team lineups are on the table.

A team from CBS Sportsline looked at the NFC South last week and thankfully there was a wise voice of reason and a seasoned handicapper against the madness of the Falcons, who are heavy favorites to win the NFC South – and he was optimistic about the Bucs.

Joe doesn’t tell people to gamble, but if you do, you should at least consult a proven guru who works with solid data and common sense.

Alex Selesnick of CBS Sports is one of those guys. According to CBS, the operator of the popular social network @PropStarz is 461-350 on NFL betting for the 2024 season.

Currently, the Falcons are the favorite to win the NFC South at -120, meaning that if you bet $120 on Atlanta, you’ll only make $100 in profit if they win. The Bucs are at +300, so if you bet $100 on the Bucs, you’ll make $300 in profit.

As for the Falcons, Selesnick is a bit incredulous.

“Honestly, I’m not particularly impressed with Atlanta’s roster. I think the race is much more even in this division at -120,” Selesnick said. “When you look at Atlanta’s defense, I think there are still big question marks on defense. And honestly, I just don’t think they deserve to be such an overwhelming favorite in this division. … They’re very untested.”

The Bucs’ talent puts a smile on Selesnick’s face, and he says they have the best defense in the division and an offense almost as good as Atlanta’s. He called the Bucs’ repeat title as NFC South champions a sure bet.

Selesnick also sees Carolina as a potentially lucrative bet, as they are a heavy underdog at +1200, meaning $10 wagered on the Panthers could return 12 times that amount.

Even if Joe isn’t going to pull the trigger on purpose now, the +300 bet on the Bucs’ third consecutive NFC South title is certainly tempting.
