Marge Simpson voice actress Nancy MacKenzie dies at the age of 81

Actress Nancy MacKenzie, who became known in Latin America primarily as the voice of Simpsons character Marge Simpson, has died at the age of 81.

The news of her death was announced on Instagram by her co-stars Patricia Acevedo and Claudia Motta, who provide the voices of Lisa and Bart in the Spanish-language version of the hit animated series.

“It is with deep sadness that the Simpson children (Lisa and Bart) announce the passing of our beloved mother Marge Simpson (Nancy MacKenzie). Rest in peace, you will never be forgotten,” reads the translated caption next to a photo montage of the three over the years.

MacKenzie voiced the matriarch of The Simpsons for 15 seasons in Latin America. She also lent her voice to the Spanish-language versions of Disney’s Cruella de Vil and Scooby-Doo’s Daphne and voiced Trinity in The Matrix.

Actor Humberto Vélez, who voiced her cartoon husband Homer on screen, shared his own tribute on Instagram after the news was released.

“We spent many hours together, working and traveling,” he wrote. “A lifetime. I am deeply saddened by your passing, but I celebrate your love of life, your freedom and your full life.”

Vélez thanked his deceased colleague and friend “for always listening to me” and for her “unconditional support”.

“Thank you for the laughs, the debates, the trust. Thank you for going through this part of life with me,” he continued, concluding, “You are many things. You are my wife, Marge. Thank you, Nancy MacKenzie.”

MacKenzie also lent her singing talents to the character Sailor Galaxia in the anime series Sailor Moon Cosmos.

Her co-star in the series Danichuy Chico Mágico also publicly posted an obituary, stating that “the world of #SailorMoon and dubbing is in mourning” following her death.

MacKenzie was born in Peru and moved to Mexico in her twenties, where she became a stage and television actress.

The simpsons Season 35 is currently airing Sunday nights on FOX in the US. Seasons 1-34 are currently streaming on Disney+ In the United Kingdom.
