Goalkeeper says emotional goodbye to Arsenal fans as new club announcement expected soon

Arthur Okonkwo, 22, is likely to leave Arsenal, bidding an emotional farewell to the club after 15 years. The young goalkeeper, who joined Arsenal’s youth academy at just 8 years old, is likely to part ways with the club after his contract expired last month. He could return to Wrexham to try and help the club gain promotion to EFL League One for the first time in 20 years.

Okonkwo shared a photo of himself as a young boy on Instagram, saying goodbye to his boyhood club. He said: “It’s time to say goodbye to @arsenal. I joined the club in 2009 aged 8 and have so many incredible memories from over 15 years. I have made friends for life and owe so much to all the coaches I have worked with, the teammates I have played with, the fans who have supported me and everyone involved with the club for helping me grow and develop into the person and player I am today. Arsenal will always be special to me and I hope they continue to be successful in the years to come. Thank you.”

Okonkwo had a very good season with Wrexham last season, following in the footsteps of Ben Foster who decided to call time on his career after a few games. He played consistently well for Wrexham and was one of the main reasons they got promoted for the second time in just two years. It’s just rumours at the moment but it looks like he could end up back at the Welsh club that has been in the spotlight so much recently due to their new owners and the documentary series that has everyone excited.

What does this mean for Arsenal? Karl Hein is likely to stay at the club and his fee could be increased to £2,000.and Back-up goalkeeper in case Aaron Ramsdale decides to leave the club (which I think would be best for all parties involved), meaning we would either need to promote a player from the academy or bring in another young goalkeeper just in case. There are plenty of options and this shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

Having watched Okonkwo a bit last season at Wrexham and seen him grow in the academy over the last few years, it is a little disappointing that we cannot keep hold of our academy graduate. With his contract up, I don’t think we will even get a fee for the talented young goalkeeper, but he deserves to play and we as Arsenal fans wish him all the best for his future.

What do you think, Gooners?
