The father of a woman who was attacked and later died in Surrey on Sunday night says she was the victim of a burglary.

According to a social media post by Aron Dunn, his daughter Tori Dunn was at her home in the 9800 block of 182A Street in Surrey’s Port Kells neighborhood on Sunday when someone broke in.

“On June 16, 2024, Tori Dunn was the victim of a burglary that resulted in her death,” the father wrote.

“We, her family, cannot even begin to understand how someone as kind as Tori could become a victim of such senseless violence. Tori was loved by everyone she knew. She devoted her time and love to her friends and family, she was someone who lit up the room with her smile and laughter. She is loved more than words can express.”

When police arrived at the house, they found Dunn injured. She was taken to the hospital where she later died.

According to Surrey RCMP Corporal James Mason, the Lower Mainland Integrated Police canine service assisted in the search for a suspect in the area.

Global BC reports that the suspect was recently released from custody and has a long and violent criminal history.

Dunn said a vigil in her honor will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, at Surrey Bend Regional Park.
