Victors Weekend a HUGE success

Victors Weekend a HUGE success

Michigan’s football team has been absolutely successful at recruiting players. The Wolverines have a ton of momentum and it seems like that momentum is only going to continue to grow. The Wolverines had their Victors Weekend recruiting event this weekend and by all accounts, it was a huge success.

This morning, Michigan received a commitment from Donovan Johnson, a 4-star running back from IMG Academy. Johnson was considered a potential 5-star player before tearing his ACL last year. If he can return to form in his final season, he has a chance to climb back up the rankings.

The Wolverines received predictions for some of their top targets. They received predictions for top-100 WR Andrew Marsh and top-100 TE Andrew Olesh. The two are trending toward Michigan, and at this point, it seems likely that the pair could soon choose Michigan.

Marsh and Olesh are arguably the best offensive talents Michigan has left on the field. They both play extremely important positions and are viewed as essential for Michigan this cycle. Signing them both would be an absolute smash hit for Michigan.

The Wolverines also received projections for three-star center Kayden Strayhorn and three-star linebacker Chase Taylor. Strayhorn, who also plays at IMG Academy, is a Michigan State standout, so his signing would be great. Taylor, a Georgia native, has all the physical attributes you could want in a linebacker at 6’3″ and 200 pounds and is considered a promising prospect.

Michigan Football will look to make the deal official with these four prospects as soon as possible – if they haven’t already. I expect some announcements in the next few days. Michigan wants to capitalize on this momentum as best as possible, and a series of quick commitments is the perfect way to do that.

While the Wolverines have yet to receive any more predictions, Michigan has done a great job with the other candidates on campus. Four-star WR Taz Williams, for example, has been active on TikTok while in Ann Arbor, showing off how he’s having a great time. His recruitment appears to be between Michigan and local school Texas A&M. Williams is expected to announce his decision on July 13.

Another candidate Michigan appears to be eyeing is top-100 linebacker Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng, another IMG Academy prospect. Nathaniel is currently considered more of a Notre Dame prospect, but after his visit, there is some hope coming out of Ann Arbor.

The Wolverines, as expected, made a fantastic impression on their visitors. While the Wolverines are slowly making NIL progress, they are finally recruiting at a level close to where they should be. While we would still like to see more five-star players go to Ann Arbor, this is a huge step up from where they were.

It’s very possible and even likely that the Wolverines have 5-10 top-100 recruits in this class. For a program that has produced just one total top-100 recruit in the last two cycles despite winning the Big Ten both years, that’s a huge step forward. There’s a real chance this ends up being a top-5-10 recruiting class. And while that should be the expectation at Michigan, it’s great to see that it could finally happen.

Look for more news in the next few days. The implications of this weekend will be huge for Michigan football. Go Blue.
