Interview about “My Adventures with Superman”: The cast talks about the Max series

My adventures with Superman has taken an amazing new look at the world of Clark Kent. The animated series shows us a younger version of Clark (Jack Quaid) working at the Daily Planet with Lois Lane (Alice Lee) and Jimmy Olsen (Ishmel Sahid).

When I spoke to the actors, my first question was about Clark Kent’s wife and how much he loves this version of Lois Lane. Lee and Quaid both understand that dynamic, but their relationship really only comes out in the script. “We hadn’t met before, so I’m really glad it turned out well. They put it together so well,” Lee said of Lois and Clark’s relationship. “I think for me, I just tried to be as honest as I could in the writing and just keep what she was feeling in all those moments as authentic as possible. And I just think it’s so sweet and Clark is so wholesome, like an ideal partner, you know? I think himbo is what everyone’s been saying, and I just think him and Lois, that’s just a yin and a yang. They’re pretty opposites too. I love their love story. It’s so sweet.”

For Quaid, it was important to get it right. “I obviously wanted to get that right,” he said. “It’s just an iconic romance. When you have Clark and Lois, you have to make sure you get that right. The directors, Josie, Brendan and Jake, are so good at getting a performance out of you, and they know what the other person was doing when you were recording, or what they’re likely to do when you’re recording first. But it was very surreal to meet Alice. More than halfway through the process, I met her when she was just starting a recording. I had just come out of a recording, and Ishmael and I didn’t meet until after we finished recording. So that’s the only real downside to working as a voice actor, because you’re not really working with people, but they just did such a good job, and I just wanted to make sure that Clark was there to support his girl no matter what. He loves her, loves her to death. I love their relationship so much and to finally see it brought to life with music was incredible. It’s so close to me to watch them. I just find them enchanting.”

For Jimmy, it’s about how he reacts to things

My favorite aspect of Jimmy Olsen in Season 1 of the show was him monitoring this YouTube page and seeing how the numbers are doing. It is very What That’s what I expected from Jimmy Olsen, so I asked Sahid what Jimmy was most obsessed with in Season 2.

“In particular, the way he deals with his newfound wealth is definitely typical of Jimmy: He just spends it on trivial things, but also on his friends because he wants to include them in his newfound world,” said Sahid. “Jimmy has a few other surprises that I won’t give away, you’ll just have to stay tuned. But yeah, I’m very excited to see what you get to see in season two.”

My adventures with Superman is now streaming on Max!
