“Love Buzz” with its catchy opening bass line was released by Sub Pop in 1988 as the first single from bleachingThe song was originally recorded in 1969 by Dutch rock band Shocking Blue.

The Bona Fide Band, which according to a link shared on the website “primarily plays songs by Giants in the Trees and 3rd Secret”, Nirvana’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, has a handful of live performances scheduled in Washington through the end of July, including stops in Seattle and Tacoma. The five-piece band made its live debut at Seattle’s Easy Street Records on Thursday (June 20).

Novoselic was a member of Giants in the Trees and 3rd Secret. 3rd Secret was a supergroup consisting of Pearl Jam/Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron and Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil. The band released their eponymous debut in 2022.

Novoselic founded the Bona Fide Band to raise awareness in Washington about his new political party, the Cascade Party.

“It’s not just a regular party,” Novoselic told Seattle’s KOMO News. “We’re trying to do something different, we’re trying to be groundbreaking, we’re trying to break new ground. I’m looking for something like that, too.”

The bassist, who serves as the party’s chairman, says that in order to establish the Cascade Party, he needs to hold conventions and run for president. And that’s where the Bona Fide Band’s live performances come in.

“To be recognized as a real party, you need 1,000 valid signatures. So these shows are essentially political rallies, but there will be very little speeches from the stage,” Novoselic told KOMO. “We’re not going to go up there and bombard people with a lot of rhetoric. In short, please sign the petition if you want to see a new party in Washington state.”

He also hopes that The Bona Fide shows will evoke a sense of nostalgia in viewers.

“If it awakens memories and feelings in people, then that is the magic of music,” said the musician. “We will not contaminate it with politics. We will not make political speeches.”

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Cobain’s death. The frontman of Nirvana was found dead on April 8, 1994. He had committed suicide.
