Rashida Jones’ father is Quincy Jones

Jones was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She and her older sister Kidada Jones share the same parents.

Her father is the producer and songwriter Quincy Jones. His extensive catalog includes countless hits and dozens of film soundtracks, but Jones is best known as the producer of Michael Jackson’s Off the Wall, Thriller, And Bad albums and organized the famous benefit recording of “We Are the World” in 1985.

“I have many things that are identical to both of my parents: the way I deal with the world and we have similar political views,” Jones said the off-camera show in 2016. But, Jones said, she was serious about going to college as a child (she graduated from Harvard in 1997) and was “right on track. Maybe that’s my way of rebelling, because my parents were artists.”

Rashida Jones’ mother is Peggy Lipton

Peggy Lipton was an actress who quickly rose to fame in the late 1960s when she played Julie on a 21 Jump Street-like show called The mod squad. After taking a break from acting to raise Rashida and Kidada, Lipton returned to television in another well-known role: Twin Peaks as restaurant owner Norma Jennings.

Lipton, who had a close relationship with her two daughters, died of cancer in 2019 at the age of 72.

“The pain and grief is unmatched, as anyone who has lost a parent knows,” Jones wrote in an Instagram post on her first birthday after her mother’s death. “But she loved me unconditionally like no one else ever will and that is forever. This day belongs to Peggy. I miss you so much mom. I hope you are well.”

In 2017, Rashida Jones told Seth Meyers that her real parents were cast as her onscreen parents Angie Tribecaher sitcom produced by Steve Carell, which ran from 2016 to 2018. But while Lipton played the role of Peggy Tribeca in two episodes, her father was ultimately replaced by Ghost Hunters Star Ernie Hudson. “Listen: My father is a very talented man. You can’t have everything,” she joked to Meyers.

In the same interview, Jones told a surreal story from her childhood in Hollywood: She posed for a photo with her father, her sister Kidada, Drew Barrymore and “ET” (as a child, Jones was also bitten by Bubbles the chimpanzee – an animal that Michael Jackson kept as a pet at the time – and still has the scar on her hand.)

In 2018, Jones co-directed a documentary about her father’s life. Quincy, that’s all. Her mother, who divorced Jones in 1990, also appeared in the film. “My parents are so close, and that really makes it easier because everything comes from love,” Jones told Entertainment Weekly at the time. “My mother has so much compassion for my father, but it was also incredibly painful for her to go through what she went through and admit that the relationship wasn’t working.”

Rashida Jones and partner Ezra Koenig have a son together

While Jones previously dated producer Mark Ronson and former Barack Obama speechwriter/Pod Save America Co-host Jon Favreau, she has been dating Vampire Weekend singer and guitarist Ezra Koenig since at least 2016 People. Although neither of them has revealed whether they have married, Koenig has referred to Jones as his wife in interviews and said in April 2024 People that they are “married in the eyes of God.”

Jones and Koenig had a son, Isaiah Jones Koenig, on August 22, 2018. EHR! Message reported.

Jones and Koenig have not shared any photos of six-year-old Isaiah publicly. During a January 2021 Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Jones gave a little update during quarantine with Koenig and her son. Fallon asked if Isaiah was “musical,” given the lineage he inherited from both parents.

“Who knows what he’ll become? He has a very good sense of melody and rhythm,” Jones said, joking that she should ask Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson of The Roots for tips. “He’s really into drums. I’ll call Ahmir.”
