The CW sets premiere date for sequel series of The Librarians

The Librarians are returning to the big screen this fall. The CW has announced the premiere date for the latest installment in the long-running fantasy adventure series. The Librarians: The Next Chapter.



According to TVLine, The Librarians: The Next Chapter Premiere on Thursday, October 24th at 9pm after a brand new episode of Superman and Lois. Announced in May 2023, The next chapter follows “a librarian from the past who has traveled through time to the present and is now stuck here”, says the official synopsis. “When he returns to his castle, now a museum, he inadvertently unleashes magic across the continent. He gains a new team to help him clean up the mess he’s made and forms a new team of librarians.”

The Librarian franchise turns 20

The librarian Franchise began with the television film The Librarian: The Search for the Spearwhich aired on TNT on December 4, 2004. The well-received film starred Noah Wyle as bookworm and professional student Flynn Carsen, who is recruited by a secret organization within the Metropolitan Public Library to be the next librarian, the collector and custodian of the world’s most sacred artifacts; Bob Newhart as Judson, Flynn’s mentor and predecessor; and Jane Curtain as Charlene, the library administrator.


The Fantasy adventure film spawned two sequels, 2006 The Librarian: Return to King Solomon’s Mines and 2008 The Librarian: The Curse of the Judas Chalicewhich brought back Wyle, Curtin and Newhart. After a short break, the franchise was revived in 2014 with a television series called The Librarianswhich ran for four seasons and 42 episodes. While Wyle, Curtin and Newhart made guest appearances in The LibrariansThe main roles in the series were played by Rebecca Romijn (Colonel Eve Baird), Christian Kane (Jacob Stone), Lindy Booth (Cassandra Killian), John Kim (Ezekiel Jones) and John Larroquette (Jenkins).

Who will play the main role in the next chapter?

At the time of writing this article the only actor from previous librarian Rates confirmed for The next chapter is Kane, who returns in a guest role as Jacob Stone. In the new series, Stone will be tasked by the Library with “mentoring Charlie and helping her find her confidence so she can fulfill her dream of becoming a permanent Guardian.” Jessica Green (The outpost) will play Charlie Cornwall, also known as the Guardian, the librarian’s bodyguard.

The next chapter also stars Callum McGowan (Jamestown) as Vikram Chamberlin, the librarian from 1847 who breaks the rules and accidentally transports himself to present-day Central Europe; Olivia Morris (Hotel Portofino) as Lysa Pascal; Bluey Robinson (Britannia) as Connor Green; and Caroline Loncq (Mammals) as Mrs. Astolat.

The Librarians: The Next Chapter Premieres on The CW on October 24th.
