1 dead in fiery crash in southwest Michigan after truck crashes into tree

BARRY COUNTY, MI – One person was found dead in a truck after a fiery accident, Michigan State Police said.

Officers responded to an accident report at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 22, on East Ickes Road, near Bird Road, in the Baltimore Township of Barry County. Police initially received an iPhone emergency alert indicating an accident in the area.

At the scene of the accident, police found a completely destroyed pickup truck that had crashed into a tree. One passenger – who could not be identified at the time – was found dead in the truck.

The identity of the injured man will be determined by a forensic pathologist, police said. As of Sunday morning, the cause of the accident and the factors that contributed to it were still unknown.

The crash remains under investigation.
