The Locust, the classic underground mutant Seran race, will finally return to Xbox consoles in Gears of War: E-DayThe action takes place at the beginning of the 17-year-long Locust War. E-Tag focuses on the emerging friendship of series protagonists Marcus Fenix ​​​​and Dominic Santiago as they try to combat the sudden Locust threat.


With Gears of War: E-Day‘s new focus on horror in the early days of the Locust War, E-Tag needs to showcase three classic forces of the Locust Horde in new, unique ways to be truly terrifying. These types include Kryll, Wretches, and Berserkers, any of which could really up the game’s scare factor.

The terrible creatures from Seras Hollows

The world of Sera is home to dozens of unique subterranean creatures, many of which have been tamed, altered, and forced to fight alongside the Locust forces against humans. E-TagThe announcement trailer has already shown one such creature, the gigantic spider-like Corpser that the Locusts use to create many of their exit holes. Aside from the Corpser and the common Locust drones, it is currently unknown which of the classic Locust ranks and creatures will return or how they will appear in E-Tag. One creature that should return to strike an even more terrifying tone is the Kryll.


Kryll are small bat-like creatures that often fly in huge groups, numbering up to a million Kyrll in a single Kryll storm. Being subterranean in nature, the Kyrll are extremely sensitive to light and can often burst into flames when they come into contact with ultraviolet light. However, once night falls, the Kryll pounce on any living creature, instantly tearing it to pieces like flying swarms of piranhas. The Locust has even managed to use Kryll in conjunction with the flying, ink-splattered Nemacysts to shield the Kryll from light and plunge entire cities into eternal darkness.

The man-eating wretches

While the Kyrll and Nemacysts ruled the skies during the early years of the Locust War, other creatures dominated the ground—notably the chimpanzee-like Wretches. Standing roughly three feet tall, these creatures may seem weak at first glance, but the Wretches’ strength comes from their sheer numbers. Wretches often attack COG soldiers and civilians in massive packs that could easily overwhelm even the most experienced soldier if they’re not careful. The Wretches are particularly ferocious in their attacks, with many of them tearing civilians and soldiers to pieces and consuming their remains, such as the remains of miners found at the Lethia Imulsion Facility in. Gears of War 1.


The unstoppable Berserkers

Perhaps the most fearsome creature in the Locust Horde’s arsenal was the Berserker. Unlike the other Hollow creatures, Berserkers are actually female Locusts. These massive creatures stand an average of 10 feet tall and have the strength and speed to tear down walls and pillars in seconds simply by running into them. Although the Berserkers are blind, they make up for this with their incredible sense of smell and hearing, which allows them to pinpoint the position of soldiers even from miles away. To make matters worse, Berserkers are equipped with nearly impenetrable hides, and the only way to destroy them is to weaken them with a flamethrower or obliterate them with blows from the Hammer of Dawn.

The Horrors of The Hollow on E-Day


With Gears of War:E-TagThe Coalition, the new inclination towards the horror genre, should highlight the terrifying nature of each of these creatures in the upcoming prequel. A Berserker could be used as E-Tag‘s recurring boss. If the Coalition wants the Locust to be truly fearsome, they could use a single Berserker similar to Nemesis in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. Marcus and Dom might encounter a Berserker early in the game, but would be unable to harm him and would be forced to flee, possibly through city buildings or the sewers. They might encounter the Berserker repeatedly throughout the game and not be able to defeat him until the final mission when they obtain the Hammer of Dawn. This could Gears of War: E-Day with great tension, as players never know when the Berserker will appear and there is no chance for them to stop him.
