Pakistan assistant coach Azhar Mahmood plans to take legal action over false allegations

(MENAFN-IANS) New Delhi, June 23 (IANS) After speculation circulated on social media that the families of the players and the team’s coaching staff had travelled with the team at the expense of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), assistant coach Azhar Mahmood released a statement announcing that he would “seek legal advice against the persons responsible for these false allegations”.

“This culture of false accusations and misleading people into believing a false story is now becoming ridiculous and dangerous. Speaking without evidence and misinterpreting facts is a criminal offense and legal action will be taken against those who behave in this way,” Azhar Mahmood wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The Men in Green had a lackluster T20 World Cup, which saw the team exit at the group stage of the tournament as they were overtaken in the points table by hosts USA. This is just one of many controversies brewing around the Pakistan team, which is under scrutiny following its exit at the group stage of the World Cup.

“Gaining more followers and media attention by spreading falsehoods is absolutely unacceptable. I will be seeking legal advice against those responsible for making these false allegations against me and my family and will take strict action accordingly. We will not be discussing this matter further on social media. I urge everyone not to engage in or support these harmful narratives as it is imperative to put an end to such behavior in our media culture,” he concluded.

This came just days after Pakistani media reported that captain Babar Azam would also take legal action against former cricketers and YouTubers who had accused the world’s top ODI batsman of misconduct during the tournament.
