LAFC reaches club record of 10 games without defeat with 6-2 victory over San Jose Earthquakes

Los Angeles FC extended its club-record unbeaten streak to ten games in all competitions with a convincing 6-2 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday night at BMO Stadium. The win moves LAFC to a season record of 11-4-4 and positions them in a three-way tie for first place in the Western Conference with 37 points.

Mateusz Bogusz, filling in for Cristian Olivera, who is playing for Uruguay in the Copa America, opened the scoring in the 15th minute. Bogusz latched onto a precise pass from right-back Sergi Palencia and headed the ball past San Jose goalkeeper Jacob Jackson.

In the 26th minute, reigning MLS Golden Boot winner Denis Bouanga scored his 13th goal of the 2024 season. Bouanga received a diagonal pass from left-back Ryan Hollingshead and skillfully finished with his left foot.

Veteran striker Kei Kamara increased LAFC’s lead in the 33rd minute by heading in a Bogusz cross. That goal was the 146th regular-season goal of Kamara’s career, surpassing Landon Donovan for second place on the all-time MLS scoring list. Hollingshead scored his first goal of the season in the 42nd minute when he fired a left-footed shot that deflected off a San Jose defender and into the net.

San Jose defender Rodrigues narrowed the gap to 0-0 in first-half stoppage time, but Bogusz restored LAFC’s lead to 4-0 in the 52nd minute with his second goal of the night, converting a pass from Bouanga. Bogusz’s season tally now stands at nine goals.

San Jose’s Benji Kikanović scored in the 57th minute, ending LAFC’s streak of nine consecutive games (including U.S. Open Cup games) in which they conceded one goal or fewer. The final goal of the game came in the 87th minute, when LAFC’s homegrown striker Nathan Ordaz set up Tomás Ángel for Ángel’s first career MLS goal, sealing the comprehensive 6-2 victory.
