Chris Pratt almost gave up on Marvel castings before landing the role in Guardians of the Galaxy

Never give up, because good things could be just around the corner. Case in point: Chris Pratt.

The star of the Protector of the Galaxy The trilogy’s director told Jimmy Kimmel on Thursday that he had failed to get a role at Marvel so many times that he vowed never to audition again.

“I auditioned for Thor, but not even to be Thor – but to be one of the sidekick guys, and I didn’t get called back,” Pratt said on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. “They usually give you a little bit of feedback, and I remember the casting director saying, ‘Wow. You really made a big decision there.’ It’s like, ‘Hey, turn up the acting a little bit, man.'”

“It got to the point where I would never audition for Marvel again,” he added. “I thought to myself, ‘This is stupid, I’m never going to be in a Marvel movie.'”

Pratt claims he has auditioned for virtually every Marvel film.

“I mean, all of them. Any one that needed a guy who even remotely looked like me, I auditioned for in one way or another. I either submitted a tape and they said, ‘No, we don’t need to see him,’ or I went and saw them and they said, ‘No, that’s the last time we need to see you.'”

When casting the original 2014 film, director James Gunn was urged to consult Pratt. The first audition didn’t go well, but Gunn worked with him to smooth out the rough edges. Pratt eventually landed the role of Star-Lord.

This has since led to her appearing in all three films and also making cameo appearances in other Marvel films.

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 will be in theaters on May 5th.
