Happy and glorious … at Glastonbury: Prince Harry, Beatrice and Eugenie and even King Charles (sort of) danced at the world-famous festival

It is the most famous music festival in the world, attracting the biggest names for decades, from David Bowie to Billie Eilish.

Headliners of this year’s event, which starts in a few days, are Dua Lipa and Coldplay.

While they are famous, they lack the majestic appeal of King Charles and Prince Harry, who are among the royals who have attended the event in the past.

And Prince William previously announced that participation in the On his and Kate’s wish list was a musical spectacle in Somerset.

In an interview with BBC Radio 1 in 2017, William said: “I’ve talked about going to Glastonbury before because I love my music and I love Catherine too.”

However, he added that for safety reasons, it was “better to stay away from it.”

While the Prince and Princess of Wales may not have visited Worthy Farm yet, here are the royals who were lucky enough to attend Glastonbury.

In 2010, King Charles visited Glastonbury to celebrate the festival’s 40th anniversary.

King Charles

In 2010, the King – then Prince of Wales – visited Glastonbury to celebrate the festival’s 40th anniversary.

In his usual suit and tie, he stood out from the crowd of revelers, but still seemed to enjoy the evening.

Charles was given a tour of the grounds by Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis.

The visit was particularly remarkable because of the exchange between the future king and the young Australian Nick Wardle.

The man said: “Hi mate, I’m Nick from Australia. I work at the festival.”

Without taking a breath, Charles replied, “I would never have guessed that. I hope you have a work permit here.”

More amused than shocked, Mr Wardle replied: “Yes, I do, mate.”

Afterwards he said: “The prince is a great guy. I thought it was funny that he asked me about my visa.”

The visit was also marked by a photograph being taken of one of Charles’ bodyguards reaching for his gun as an overly friendly bystander approached him.

The man was Bob Wilson, manager of the Greenpeace Field at Glastonbury. As it turned out, he was greeting someone else.

However, the officer believed the man posed a threat, so he reached for his concealed pistol. When he realized the man posed no threat, he dropped the weapon.

Prince Harry

Although his father had legally attended the festival, the Glasto founder recently joked that Prince Harry had “jumped the fence” during his visit.

In April this year, 88-year-old Sir Michael was knighted in a ceremony presided over by the Princess. After the ceremony, he said: “The King was here once, Prince Charles. And Harry – I think he jumped the fence.”

When asked how he knew, Sir Michael chuckled and said: “I have spies everywhere. No, actually I have security guards everywhere.”

In 2013, Mr Eavis said: “Prince Harry was actually great.”

“I recommended that he continue into the night because Glastonbury is all about the nightlife.”

“At three o’clock in the afternoon, you don’t get it.”

“I told him to ask his taxi driver to come back at five in the morning, and you know what? He held out until four in the morning.”

“All his friends had a great time. He didn’t want to make his visit here formal.”

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie

Prince Andrew’s daughters have also been spotted enjoying live music at Worthy Farm in the past.

Last year, Beatrice and her husband Edo Mapelli Mozzi were seen hanging out with friends on the last day of the festival.

Beatrice, who regularly performs at Glastonbury, was also there in 2022. The princess found herself in a tricky situation this year when her ticket was reportedly declined at an upscale food stall.

Princess Eugenie is also an experienced festival-goer, having been spotted at Glastonbury in 2013 and 2016. Despite the wet weather on her second visit (above), Eugenie still seemed to enjoy herself.

While grabbing a bite to eat at the Michelin-starred Pony Bistro, it was widely reported that Beatrice’s card was declined three times.

Despite the brief embarrassment, she seemed unmoved and soon found herself reunited with her husband among the other partygoers.

Her sister, Princess Eugenie, is also an experienced festival-goer and was spotted at Glastonbury in 2013 and 2016.

Despite the wet weather on her second visit, Eugenie still seemed to be enjoying herself.

She was photographed partying with friends wearing black and green wellies to brave the wet weather.

Cressida

Harry’s ex-girlfriend Cressida Bona has been to Glastonbury many times. In 2013, while she was with Harry, Cressida was spotted eating a plate of chips.

The actress’ appearance at the festival sparked rumors that her then-boyfriend might also appear there – which he then did.

The next year, fresh from her split from the Duke of Sussex, Cressida was again spotted chatting with friends in the famous fields of Somerset

The following year, shortly after her separation from the Duke of Sussex, Cressida was again spotted with friends in the famous fields of Somerset.

At the time, she said: “I am staying with friends who have set up a tent.”

Cressida must have regretted this decision after torrential rain turned the campsite into a 360-hectare mud bath and the festival site was also plunged into silence for two hours after a thunderstorm.
