While the family of University of Missouri graduate Riley Strain raises questions about the cause of death, which authorities say was “accidental,” a recently released coroner’s report now reveals some shocking details. Strain, 22, was reported missing on March 8 after being thrown from Luke’s 32 Bridge in Nashville.

The new report revealed that Strain was extremely drunk at the time of his disappearance. Additionally, he had THC in his blood when he drowned. On the night of March 8, he had a blood alcohol content of 0.228. Delta 9, a compound commonly found in THC, was also found in his system. The cause of death was listed as “drowning and ethanol intoxication.”

Was Riley Strain served too much?

Strain’s stepfather, Chris Whiteid, had previously claimed that the bartender at Luke Bryan’s bar, 32 Bridge Food + Drink, kicked the student out after he drank too much, but the bar insisted it only served him one alcoholic drink. Video footage later showed him staggering down the street. Now the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission is investigating where else he was served alcohol and whether he drank too much.

Strain’s mother, Michelle Whiteid, previously told NewsNation that her son texted her saying his drink tasted strange the night he disappeared. She said her son ordered a rum and coke, but it “didn’t taste good.” Michelle added that she asked Strain not to drink it, and he told her it tasted “like barbecue.”

Although Strain’s family suspected his death was due to foul play, the new report confirmed that it was an accident and that he died from drowning or intoxication.
