Battle

  • On Saturday, Russian guided bombs destroyed a residential building in Kharkiv, Ukraine. According to regional authorities, three people were killed and 52 injured.
  • Two people were injured and numerous residential houses and other buildings were damaged in a Russian missile attack on the Kiev region overnight, Ukrainian authorities said.
  • Ukraine fired at least 30 drones overnight at Russia’s western Bryansk region without causing any damage, Russian officials said.
  • Russia’s air defense systems destroyed several drones over the Smolensk region, said Vasily Anokhin, the governor of the region in western Russia.
  • Russian-based officials said Ukrainian attack drones also struck Enerhodar, a town near the Russian-occupied Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, injuring one person.

  • Russian Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev told the Interfax news agency that his country’s athletes – most of whom are excluded from the Paris Olympics – will soon take part in more competitions as international events would suffer from their absence.
  • British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said far-right politician Nigel Farage’s claim that the West “provoked” Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was “completely false and only plays into (Vladimir) Putin’s hands”.
  • Moscow could change the timing of its nuclear weapons deployment if the threat against Russia increases, the state news agency RIA reported, citing Andrei Kartapolov, chairman of the Defense Committee of the Russian lower house of parliament.
