After severe storms, heat relief is expected in the Detroit metropolitan area

The hot, humid and stormy weather has taken its toll on families in the Detroit metropolitan area, but we will get some relief from the heat. The chance of showers and storms will linger longer.

There is a chance of an isolated strong to severe thunderstorm Saturday night, but the probability is low over southeast Michigan. The main concerns would be gusty winds and heavy rain. The heavy rain could lead to localized flooding.

It will be mostly cloudy, with the possibility of showers and thunderstorms during the overnight hours. Lows will be between 21 and 24 degrees. The wind will be from the southwest at 13 to 21 km/h, with gusts up to 40 km/h.

Sunday

The heavier rain will move out of the area by 6 a.m. Sunday morning as a cold front moves through the area, but a few showers are still possible throughout the morning. A few scattered showers and an isolated thunderstorm may develop in the afternoon and evening. Otherwise, it will be mostly cloudy and noticeably cooler. Highs will be in the 30s in Detroit, below 27 degrees in Monroe, Ann Arbor and at the Metro Airport in Romulus. It will be around 27 degrees in Pontiac, Flint and Port Huron. Winds will be out of the west at 12 to 16 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph.

During the night into Sunday, partly cloudy skies and low temperatures between 15 and 18 degrees are expected.

Monday

The weather looks ideal for outdoor activities on Monday, including the 66th Ford Fireworks Display. A high pressure system will bring mostly sunny skies to southeast Michigan, and afternoon temperatures will be just above 80 degrees.

On Monday evening, around 10 p.m., when the fireworks start, it will be mostly clear and pleasant. Overnight it will be partly cloudy with lows between 15 and 18 degrees.

Tuesday

Rain is more likely again on Tuesday, with highs again above 30 degrees. Highs are expected to be in the 30s and 30s throughout the working week.
