Celebrini…undervalued? Chris Peters thinks so + talks about other possible draft targets of the Sharks

Chris Peters joins the San Jose Hockey Now Podcast!

Peters says people underestimate… Macklin Celebrini? He also believes winning the draft lottery could be the second most important day in San Jose Sharks history. Chris also talks about the Sharks’ other 2024 draft targets and why he thinks Will Smith should have stayed in school.

But before we get to Peters (1:27:00), we discuss a busy offseason week for the Sharks.

What do we think about the Ty Dellandrea transfer? (2:14)

Could all of this week’s moves be a prelude to the Mikael Granlund or Nico Sturm trades at the trade deadline?

Sheng covers the four stages of Barclay Goodrow’s acceptance, from Goodrow’s signing by the San Jose Sharks to the revelation that the Sharks were on Goodrow’s no-trade list. (14:56)

Regardless, Sheng advocates for the addition of Goodrow. (35:32)

Finally, Keegan shares his personal top 32 rankings for the 2024 draft and highlights his underrated favorites like Konsta Helenius, Jett Luchanko and Andrew Basha. Who would Sheng and Keegan take at number 14? (53:21)

Now, Chris Peters (1:27:00)!

Peters gets Celebrini fired up and explains why the San Jose Sharks’ future No. 1 pick is undervalued and why winning the draft lottery could be the second most important day in franchise history. (1:27:22)

In his last mock draft, Peters selected defenseman Stian Solberg for the Sharks at No. 14. We also discuss other options like Cole Eiserman and Adam Jiricek. How did Solberg and Eiserman perform in the interview at the Combine? What if Konsta Helenius or Carter Yakemchuk were eliminated? (1:39:31)

Peters also selected defenseman Adam Kleber at No. 33 and winger Matvei Gridin at No. 42 for the Sharks. Why? Who else looks like a Mike Grier type in the second round? (1:52:02)

Sheng asks Peters about two prospects he’s heard the San Jose Sharks are sniffing out: center Dean Letourneau and defenseman Gabriel Eliasson. Peters says one of those prospects was casually described to him as “evil.” (2:02:01)

Peters also shares his thoughts on potential Sharks-like prospects after the second round, as well as the goalies in this draft class. (2:05:26)

Finally, Peters gives his opinion on why Will Smith was not a finalist in the Hobey Baker Hat Trick and why he thinks Smith should have stayed in school for another year. (2:11:48)
