Singer Nivea says she and Lauren London “got very close” when both were pregnant with Lil Wayne

Nivea speaks openly about her previous relationship with Lil Wayne and her unusual friendship with Lauren London, who was pregnant with the rapper’s child while carrying their son.

In an interview with VLADTV published Wednesday, the Grammy-nominated “Don’t Mess with My Man” singer initially explained that she and Lil Wayne (born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr.) got back together after her divorce from Terius “The-Dream” Nash in 2007. The two had dated before and got engaged in 2002, but Lil Wayne called off the engagement a year later.

“He got in touch again and asked, ‘Where were you?’ Five years had passed,” said 37-year-old Nivea. “He wanted to apologize for how it had ended before. And I needed a damn friend. I felt like the whole world was laughing at me.”

When they met again, Lil Wayne, 37, was expecting a son, now 10-year-old Dwayne Carter III, with his ex, 32-year-old Sarah Vivan. He was already a father to his now 20-year-old daughter Reginae (whom he has with his ex Antonia Wright), and Nivea had three children from her marriage to The-Dream, 42: 14-year-old daughter Navy and twin sons London and Christian, 13.

The fact that Lil Wayne was expecting a child did not stop Nivea from accepting his second marriage proposal in 2009. She explained that it did not bother her that he was expecting a child by another woman because the child was conceived when they were not together.

“When we met again, I had three (children),” Nivea said. “I wasn’t pregnant. That wasn’t the reason he proposed to me or anything like that. I took it as, ‘You accepted mine.’ If that happened before us and we’re only coming back to it now, why shouldn’t I accept that son if you tell me you want to marry me? So that’s it.”

During the course of their relationship, Nivea found out she was pregnant with her fourth child, Lil Wayne’s son Neal, now 9. However, that same day, she learned that London, 34, was also pregnant with Lil Wayne’s child, who was due just months before her son.

“I found out the day my pregnancy with our son was confirmed that he was going to have another child three months before ours,” said Nivea. “I just thought ‘Wow’. Then my mom died. So yeah, life!”

While pregnant with her son, Nivea decided to end her relationship with Lil Wayne.

“I ended our relationship while I was pregnant with our son because I couldn’t handle it,” she said. “I thought I could. I’m a different type of woman. I thought, ‘You know what? You love me? Screw it!’ But then I realized I didn’t want to do that. So I let it go.”

The complicated situation and the loss of her mother actually helped Nivea to build a friendship with London.

“It was very devastating, but then she and I became very close, ironically after he and I decided to put it behind us,” she said. “She was a really good friend to me during my mother’s death. I know that sounds weird, but we were two people going through something that was kind of humbling. It felt like there was no one else you could share this weirdly unique situation with.”

“We were calling each other to get information because she and I both had previous relationships with him when we were younger,” she continued of London, who met Lil Wayne when she was 15 and dated him on and off over the years. “But it was the first time we spoke. We talked about all kinds of things from the past and we bonded as friends like that. It’s still a testament to what kind of man he is because we’re all cool with each other when it comes to his baby mamas. We understand now that the kids are here, damn it! They’re here now. You can’t take anything back. So we’re the best moms I’ve ever seen in a group with the same baby daddy. I think it’s incredible.”

London (longtime girlfriend of the late Nipsey Hussle, with whom she has three-year-old son Kross) welcomed her and Lil Wayne’s son Kameron, now 10, on September 9, 2009. Nearly three months later, Nivea welcomed her and Lil Wayne’s son Neal on November 30.
