Second graders receive books from the Monticello Kiwanis Club

MONTICELLO, NY — With summer vacation approaching, the Kiwanis Club of Monticello delivered chapter books to the 11 second-graders at George L. Cooke Elementary School.

The books were selected by Kiwanian Doris Motl, a retired fourth-grade teacher. Ms. Motl was accompanied to the classrooms by Jane Sorensen, who is a Kiwanis member and the family engagement program director for EPIC (Every Person Influences Children).

The students were very polite and thankful for the gift of reading materials – and they were especially pleased with the chapter books. The second graders were also very interested in learning more about the Kiwanis Club and the many ways the club helps children in the community – from the Sweet Dreams program, which brings comfort to children in foster care and Christmas gifts to children in need, to scholarships for high school seniors. The students were also impressed with the Service Leadership Clubs that Kiwanis sponsors in the middle and high schools.

The mission of Kiwanis is to improve the world one child at a time and one community at a time.
