Lara Trump believes her new song will be secretly banned

Lara Trump, the daughter-in-law of former President Donald Trump, has claimed that music streaming platforms secretly banned her new song.

The former television producer and wife of Eric Trump released a cover of Tom Petty’s song “I will not give in‘, but has since claimed that her song is almost impossible to find on streaming platforms, despite it being at number 31 on the iTunes charts.

She told Fox News that her song was allegedly secretly banned because it was “too political,” claiming this was part of a broader trend of conservatives being “censored.”

In posts shared on X (formerly known as Twitter), Mrs Trump vented her frustration, criticised Apple and posted screen captures and screenshots of the song being unavailable.

“Hey Apple – where’s my song??? Why doesn’t my song show up when you search for ‘I Won’t Back Down’???” she said.

In a now-deleted post, Eric Trump wrote: “Apple appears to be vehemently banning Lara’s new song, which hit number 31 on the iTunes charts immediately after its release. Lara’s name, if typed in in full, is barely usable and can only be found under ‘Fake News II.’ The song itself is not searchable.”

In an interview with Fox, Lara Trump spoke to host Sean Hannity about her allegations. She said: “It’s really sad because I think conservatives are used to this kind of treatment. We’re used to being censored, we’re used to being secretly blocked.”

“I already know that my song was secretly banned, so many people told me that, on Apple Music, on Spotify, on Amazon Music. They didn’t want to play my song on the radio because it was too political.”

The Independent has asked Apple, Amazon and Spotify for comment.

Mrs Trump faced backlash for her claims, with one X-user calling her “pretentious” while another said, “I agree politics sucks but her song sucked even more.”

However, some X users have come to the former TV producer’s aid. One supporter said the aspiring musician “is being ripped off just because of her name. She recorded a song that is popular and very good. But because she is a Trump woman, she is being treated badly by the same people who are taking her money.”

Mrs Trump launched a music career earlier this year after posting videos of herself playing the piano. She said she was “not trying to be a professional singer” but just wanted to share her “love of music”.

This happened after Donald Trump received a cease and desist letter from the family of the late Tom Petty after he performed his song “I will not give in“ at a rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 2020.

Shortly after the rally, the singer posted a statement from his family on his Twitter account saying that the use of the song by Trump’s campaign team was “in no way authorized.”

“Both the late Tom Petty and his family stand firmly against racism and discrimination of any kind,” the statement said. “Tom Petty would never want one of his songs to be used in a hate campaign. He loved bringing people together.”
